The 5 rules that make puberty talks easier

1. Start before it starts

Begin simple body talk around 7–8, before changes appear. Information before experience prevents fear.

2. Many small talks

Two minutes in the car beats one hour at the kitchen table. Repetition builds comfort.

3. Use real words

Correct anatomical names are a health and safety skill — not an embarrassment.

4. Answer, then stop

Answer what was asked, check understanding, and let your child steer the next question.

5. "I don't know — let's find out"

Looking things up together models curiosity and keeps you the trusted source.

6. Keep the door open

End every talk with "you can always ask me." Then mean it — calmly, every time.
